Restoration of cornices and decorative elements of Grand Hôtel Veneto
Overview
Grand Hôtel Veneto

A BIT OF HISTORY
Grand Hôtel Veneto, located in the heart of Rome, is a symbol of early 20th-century Italian refinement. Built during the city’s monumental expansion, it showcases elegant façades with cornices, moldings, and decorative reliefs typical of reinterpreted Roman classical architecture.
Once a residence for Rome’s political and cultural elite, the hotel reflects the craftsmanship of Italian artisans in architectural decoration. Its finely detailed cornices and moldings highlight the importance of staging prestigious buildings within the urban fabric.
Over time, exposure to weather, pollution, and thermal variations caused cracks, water infiltration, and material degradation. Decorative elements, especially on the top floor cornices, were at risk of detachment and required urgent restoration to ensure safety and aesthetic integrity.
PROJECT
The restoration aimed to preserve the historic façade by consolidating and restoring the cornices and moldings affected by time and weather. The interventions sought to restore the original look while ensuring safety and durability.
Prompt Vicat natural cement was selected for its combination of fast application, durability, and aesthetic compatibility, ensuring a faithful and long-lasting restoration.

IMPLEMENTATION
Work started with the installation of a suspended scaffold for safe access to cornices nearly 30 meters high.
Rope access specialists (Restauro In Quota®) removed damaged elements and prepared fragile areas.
Supports were then rebuilt using specific molds and Prompt natural cement mortar, offering fast setting, excellent adhesion, and a finish close to the original stone.
Finally, cohesion control and careful cleaning ensured aesthetic and structural continuity.
